ENVIRONMENTAL CIVIL SOCIETY South Kivu: a Local Basket Fund on the move to protect the climate and biodiversity

Posted on 2024-07-05 - Catégorie: Changement climatique

An awareness-raising workshop brought together economic players from South Kivu to promote the green economy on July 05, 2024. The workshop, organized by civil society in collaboration with the Fédération des Entreprises du Congo (FEC), paved the way for the creation of a Local Basket Fund (LBC), an innovative financing mechanism dedicated to combating climate change and protecting biodiversity.

The Local Basket Fund will mobilize essential private funds to finance concrete projects in the field.
Supported by WWF-RDC, Société Civile Environnementale et Argo Rural du Congo (SOCEARUCO) and Consortium Brave Femmes du Congo (CBFC), the workshop is part of the "Leading Change" project. Civil society organizations expressed their commitment to:
- Adhere to the policy of setting up a Local Basket Fund in favor of climate and biodiversity in South Kivu;
- Mobilize the necessary financial resources for biodiversity conservation, climate and the green economy in South Kivu province;
-Solicit a Provincial Order recognizing the Local Basket Fund initiative;
- Conduct joint advocacy actions with the provincial authorities to support and appropriate the initiative.

It should be noted that this workshop was organized to encourage the private sector of South Kivu Province and other people of good will to engage in the mobilization of private funds in favor of biodiversity conservation, ecosystem restoration, natural disaster prevention, waste management and the fight against climate change, so that they position South Kivu Province to contribute to the effective promotion of the implementation of a new climate economy.
