A Major Milestone Achieved in Wamaza

Great news for the agricultural sector in Maniema Province! CBCS-NETWORK has successfully completed its field mission, marking another important step in promoting agroecology and community development.

Across 7 villages hosting our community seed banks, 15 Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) committees have been established to strengthen the economic empowerment of women farmers, improve local agricultural productivity, and contribute to the protection of forests belonging to local communities and Indigenous Peoples through sustainable farming practices.

Key achievements of the mission:

✅ Funding for agricultural activities: Financial support was provided to 12 lead farmers to mobilize labor for clearing and preparing seed multiplication fields.

✅ Preparation for seed distribution: More than 500 smallholder farmers and Indigenous Peoples have been identified and registered. They will soon receive NERICA 4 rice seeds for the upcoming Season A planting.

✅ Strengthening community solidarity: 15 VSLA committees were established to promote savings, improve access to credit, and enhance household financial resilience. Congratulations to the Maendeleo, Fanya Kazi, Umoja wa Wamama groups, and all the other committees for their commitment.

From Kirubi to Lupanga, through Kitoy and Mulala, communities are already mobilized. Despite poor road access and climate-related challenges, the determination of local farmers remains truly inspiring.
