Establishment of a Community Nursery in Luhorhe, Bohozi Village, Kabare Territory (South Kivu)

Since 2024, the village of Bohozi, located in Kabare Territory (South Kivu), has been facing landslides and severe soil erosion. In response to these environmental challenges, CBCS-Network has launched the creation of a community nursery in the sub-village of Luhorhe.

This local initiative aims to empower youth and green women entrepreneurs by directly involving them in restoring the environment.
The nursery will produce fruit and agroforestry seedlings to fight deforestation and promote agroecology.

In Luhorhe, a strong sense of community is taking shape: youth, women, and local leaders are joining their knowledge and efforts to restore degraded soils in the southern part of Kabare.

This initiative aligns with a broader vision of:
- Ecosystem restoration and the fight against deforestation
- Promotion of agroecology and sustainable practices
- Strengthening local food sovereignty and climate regulation
- Supporting ecosystem resilience to climate change
- Creating circular green economic opportunities for youth and women entrepreneurs

The Luhorhe community nursery is a concrete example of local action for sustainable development, rooted in traditional knowledge and responding to the present needs of local communities.

We commend this collective commitment and call for technical and financial support to scale up similar initiatives across Kabare and beyond.
